SONAKSHI SINHA CAN'T SAVE THIS FILM ALONE
Sonakshi Sinha kicks butt in the AR Murugadoss film but is limited by her role. Despite Anurag kashyap's deliciously bad performance, Akira falls into a sinkhole.
A little girl learns early that submitting to wrong doing is not right, even if you have to suffer for it. Good tip, and Akira begins with promise, showing us how girls can choose karate over 'kathak' and flower.
Akira, no relation to kurosawa, makes the journey from a colourful Rajasthan 'Chota Shehar' to 'Mahanagari' Mumbai, and runs slam-bang into a convoluted plot involving a murder and missing cash and a bunch of corrupt cops, headed by the vicious ACP Rane.
There is a sole 'good' cop in the movie , Konkona Sen Sharma's very pregnant, very dedicated officer. But she is the only one against many.
So if Akira stands up to acid-throwing bullies, we are meant to rightfully applaud her, but that applause is quickly tempered by her having to be disciplined: first in a remand home and then in mental asylum.
And for a female protagonist to be bloody but unbowed, and be the last women standing? That will take some doing: this watered-down female version.
AKIRA AUDIENCE REACTION
Miss Sonakshi Sinha garnered a good positive response from viewers on day one of Akira's release. The movie which revolves around her character impressed audience mainly for the kicks and punches thrown in by the actress in this female-centric drama.

Anurag Kashyap also received praise for his role as the ruthless police officer. While many especially sought to watch his acting avatar in the film, there were a few viewers who failed to recognize the eminent director.
This is the first time Sonakshi has taken up the mantle of doing a film that doesn't have A-list male superstar opposite her. The movie's biggest talking point till now has only been the actress and the public response reiterates the fact that the movie strongly hinges upon her broad shoulders.
